How to choose the best A2 ghee brand in India
By Vedika Ghee · 30 July 2026
Search for A2 ghee in India and you will find dozens of brands, all claiming purity. Rather than rank them, here is a simple checklist you can use to judge any brand and choose a genuinely good one.
1. The breed
Real A2 ghee comes from indigenous cows. Look for a brand that names the breed, ideally the Gir cow, not just the word A2 on the label.
2. The method
Ask how the ghee is made. Genuine bilona ghee is churned from cultured curd, not clarified from cream in minutes. Bilona builds the aroma and the grain.
3. Lab testing and certifications
A serious brand lab tests its ghee and holds proper certifications. Look for FSSAI, and ideally ISO 22000, which covers the whole food safety system.
4. Ingredients
Pure ghee has one ingredient: ghee. No oils, no vanaspati, no colour, no preservatives.
5. Honest pricing
Genuine A2 bilona ghee cannot be cheap. It takes 25 to 30 litres of milk to make one litre. If the price looks too good, be cautious.
Red flags to avoid
- The word A2 with no mention of the breed.
- No lab report or certifications.
- A perfectly smooth, waxy set with no grain.
- A price far below other A2 bilona ghee.
Vedika ticks each of these: A2 Gir cow bilona ghee, hand-churned, lab tested, ISO 22000:2018 and FSSAI certified. See our certifications.
Frequently asked questions
What should I look for in a good A2 ghee brand?+
The indigenous breed (such as Gir), the bilona method, lab testing, FSSAI and ideally ISO 22000 certification, and a single ingredient with no additives.
Why is cheap A2 ghee a warning sign?+
Real A2 bilona ghee takes 25 to 30 litres of milk per litre and cannot be produced cheaply. A very low price usually means it is not genuine bilona or is adulterated.
